This program was one of the very first things we started doing back in 2016. We started in one of our friend's living room with neighborhood kids. Now we have a few sessions each Sunday in our own facility. We use Project Gospel as our curriculum. We always provide a snack, games, a fun craft, and of course the lesson.
Youth Group: We have tried to do youth groups several different times over the past 5 years. We never had much of a turnout until recently. We now have a group of about 15 students from 12 to 17 that come on Saturday nights. We share a message, a snack, and games with them. The purpose of this is to create a community where these young people can ask questions and learn about having a real relationship with the Lord.
Right now we are also taking out a few mornings per week to teach a handful of preschoolers. During the Covid-19 pandemic, they haven't been able to go back to their day cares. Some of the mothers expressed some concerns about their children not getting to have any social interaction. So, we are providing that for a handful of them.
We live in a farm region. In the surrounding areas there are farm communities. Each community has a school house. We partner with 4 of them. We started by going out each week to teach Bible and English classes. But, now, since we are working full time on our projects in Filandia, we mainly help these schools during special times during the year. Whether it's providing school supplies for students, taking a missions team to do a VBS, or doing Christmas programs. We have steady contact with these community throughout the year and just try to help when we see a need.
We are very blessed to have connections in the community with local churches and the mayor's office. We have been able to partner with food programs, community projects, clothing drives, etc. Throughout the year, just as with the farm communities, we are in communication to see how we can come alongside them and help.
